Best Home Fitness Equipment
Fitness Equipment January 31st. 2010, 10:30pmWorking out at home can be a big time saver for many people. There is nothing like being in the comfort of your own home. The challenges arise when trying to determine the best home fitness equipment to purchase for your gym. All the name brands, and features will surely have your head spinning.
In order to guarantee that I get the best piece of home fitness equipment for my needs, one of the sources I rely on is Consumer Reports. They provide an objective fitness equipment review that I can depend on to share with you.
In this article I am going to focus on the two most popular pieces of home workout equipment - the treadmill, and elliptical
machine. More people invest in these two home fitness solutions to get in shape than any other piece of home workout equipment. Consumer Reports recently reviewed treadmills, and elliptical machines. Therefore, I have decided to share the results with you. If you are in the market for home cardiovascular equipment, then pay very close attention.
The trend witnessed in ellipticals, and treadmills is high tech features. Some have MP3 docks, and USB connections that will allow you to transfer your workout data to the manufacterurs website for safe storage. It also seem that home gym equipment manufacturers are attempting to make their equipment even smaller. Space in homes are generally an issue.
Consumer reports recently tested 19 elliptical machines to determine the best buys in the industry. They reviewed inexpensive machines as well as the most expensive pieces on the market. As I expected, they found that the pricier elliptical machines were made much better. Generally with home fitness equipment you get what you pay for. The testers focused their study on exercise range, safety, ergonomics, and construction.
The top rated elliptical home exercise machine is the Diamondback 1260Ef. It was easy to use, but has a hefty price tag of around $2600. For a more moderately priced elliptical machine Consumer Reports recommended the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990. It retails for around $900.
Let’s turn our attention to treadmills now - the most popular piece of home fitness equipment. Once again, the more you invest on the treadmill, the better built it generally is. You seem to get much better construction, longer belts, and better warranties when investing in the upper price range.
The Precor 9.31 scored the top rated prize for the best home fitness equipment treadmill. It will run you around $3,300; but you know you are getting an excellent piece of equipment.
The Sole F63 won the Consumer Reports Best Buy. It sells for around $1,000. Treadmill features vary from machine to machine. Some have adjustable cushion decks, while others offer downhill running. Please note that the Sole F63 folds up to save valuable space in your home.
Beware! The Best Fitness BFT1 folding treadmill earned a “do not buy tag” for its malfunctioning incline controls.
Of course, the best home fitness equipment to invest in is the one you are definitely going to use. Think long, and hard about what home workout equipment will get you moving, and stay moving.

I don’t like gyms…even if they were free, I would not go there. Everybody’s sweating in the same room and I cannot really be comfortable in front of strangers, sweating as well. Gyms are only good if you’re very strong and need a lot of heavy, expensive different machines or you need to be part of a class to get the motivation from a group (I do fine by myself)… so all I need is a good neighborhood, a stationary bicycle and some weights (and also my thigh master and my abs bar and my push-up handles…I have very thin wrists)…and a big sturdy piano bench I use as a weight bench.

I joined a gym, actually a number of gyms, over the years. I find that if I have to drive someplace to get to the gym I can easily talk myself out of it. I was so self motivated, Im not sure what changed. So now I want to do workouts at home! These have been really helpful in keeping ideas and routines interesting, great blog, Cheers!!!
