Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.  ~Henry Ford

Todays audio podcast below will reveal a newly studied fat loss trick. The 5 minute audio has the power to change your body.

Back From The 110 Degree Las Vegas R & R

Jim O'ConnorAfter cranking hard for 6 months straight my wife, Rachel, and I (no 20 month Kylie) decided to jump in the car and head for Vegas. As I was driving I was wondering what happened to the $1.89 gas? Those days are long gone, probably in our lifetime. However, when on a little mini-vacation you really don’t want to worry about gas prices. Therefore, we didn’t. However, I did notice Nevada was 40 cents cheaper than Los Angeles. It figures!

Overall, Vegas was steaming hot at 110 degrees. Thank goodness for Hoover Dam being able to keep Vegas cool. Can you image if the whole city lost power. Yikes!

We had a fantastic time getting away for our 3rd wedding anniversary!

Hey, I even worked out every morning. I guess I had to after consuming thousands of calories. Food is everywhere!

There are three things I noticed different in Vegas from 2 years ago:

1) It is really building up, even massive condos on the strip.

2) Prices have really gone up.

3) There really try to upsell you on things such as being able to see the dolphins at the Mirage. Nope, not free. How about going to the top of the Stratosphere? Nope, not free. How about $13 per person.

Bottom line – we had a great time! Hopefully, you, too, will be able to get away, and have some fun this summer. Make sure you follow my lead, and bring your workout clothes!

Are you making the same mistake I am making by eating on the run?

Based on the study presented in the audio are you going to increase your calories at breakfast?

I’m willing to give it a try. How about you?

Very much enjoy your newsletters and content here. My 1st thought is this…how many calories were the women consuming before the diet. do we know how many if any began to exercise, reducing calories obviously will lead to weight loss and over time as the study points out, things will change in the body. Well did they measure muscle loss/gain also? I don’t believe the study to be bogus at all but far from thorough. For one thing I don’t believe the majority of those reading and listening to you are sedentary. I believe for the most part they have some sort of activity in their daily routine. To give you an example I have trained hundreds of people on how to build muscle and get rid of fat. (coincidentally I was asked by the folks at explosive fitness to create their training manual and dvd). My clients MUST eat in order to retain, recover, and grow for optimal results. That means a large breakfast with few carbs yet heavy on protein at a minimum. The golden rule that I have found for everyone at least in my niche is the following… NEVER consume more than 250-300 calories from carbs per day. Doesn’t matter the source, sugar from fruit or a piece of cake reeks havoc on the body. 5 grams equals 20 calories from sugar equals 1 teaspoon of sugar. So if in the study those women who had the best long term results did not consume carbs the rest of the day (don’t know if that information is available) then I could certainly believe that. To clarify I’m a huge proponent of eating more calories. In fact most of my clients eat more in calories than they ever thought they would and this has lead to incredible results from them. However also Reduce NOT Eliminate carbs. There energy is through the roof, rest is better, fewer headaches etc. It starts with a big breakfast as a matter fact so long as the carbs are very minimal at breakfast an done eats a decent amount of protein they can skip lunch and have generally no ill effects. Skipping breakfast and piling it on at lunch however has the reverse and much more problematic effect on the body. Everyone reading this: have you ever been doing the head bob almost snapping your neck at 2-3 in the afternoon. Maybe an hour or so after big lunch that had cars/sugars? That’s because the latest studies on insulin spikes has shown that blood tested “post-prandial” 2 hours AFTER consuming carbs/sugars blood sugar was significantly higher than 15 minutes after eating. In some cases the subject blood sugar level was 3 TIMES higher. Sorry for the rambling.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

Thanks Shawn for the great contribution! I totally agree with the study not being thorough. The participants were not physically active during the study. Of course, it would be optimal to have a sample size of 1,000+ men, and women.

Your blood sugar points are right on target. I think it is important for people to keep blood sugar levels as stable as possible. What I mean is not 2000 calorie, 80 percent carb meals.

The women in the study tapered their carb intake down throughout the day.

I totally believe in 4-5 small meals/snacks a day not going over 500 calories for each meal. Of course, a bodybuilder may need more calories.

On a side note, I know Tony from Explosive Fitness. I had the priviledge of spending a couple of days with him in LA about 2 years ago. Say hi to Tony for me.

    Thanks for your input!
