The United States should be paying close attention as to what is happening fitness program wise in Brazil. They have figured out how to increase exercise compliance, and get their citizens healthier. Government sponsored group exercises classes in parks, recreation centers, and on beaches is their secret.

Wouldn’t something like this work in the United States? I think it would. There is no better motivator than seeing large groups of people getting together to exercise. People will witness these growing groups, and feel like they should be part of the crowd. This is social proof at its finest!

As I opened my mail today, I discovered that my health care provider (which shall remain nameless) increased my rates by $125.oo per month. Talk about stunned. I seriously thought it was a printing error until I confirmed it with another membe. They also had a $100.00 plus, per month increase. Holy smokes! They is insane, especially during challenging economic times.

I take care of myself by exercising, eating a healthy diet, and keeping my weight in check. What am I rewarded with? A huge health care price increase for taking care of myself. It frustrates me to know that my health insurance bill is high because I am forced to pay for people who DON’T take care of themselves. The don’t exercise, they smoke, drink, and eat whatever they want. They are rewarded with the same health insurance premium as I. It is not right.

That takes me back to FREE PUBLIC FITNESS CLASSES. This type of program would cost money, but will deliver a huge return in helping people take better responsiblity for their health. They will become educated, and empowered to exercise. Thus, improving their health and fitness, and decreasing their medical claims. This, in turn, would make America healthier, and decrease health care claims.

How about if President Obama looks into putting a program like this into his stimulus package. It will create jobs, empower people to exercise, and decrease the cost of health care. The return would be huge considering the investment. Add it into the stimulus package. This would really help Americans!

What do you think? Do you think a program like this would do well in the United States?
