Raise Metabolism By HIIT
Raise Metabolism January 31st. 2009, 1:30pmDon’t you feel like there is just not enough time to do the things you want to in today’s society? A recent research study, once again, revealed a time saving way to maximally raise metabolism. More exercise science research supports HIIT, high intensity interval training, as a very effective way of increasing metabolism.
A recent study conducted at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland revealed a regular high intensity 3 minute interval workout has a tremendous effect on the body, and its ability to process sugars.
The exercise, and metabolism study tested subjects on stationary bicycles. Each participant was ask to pedal as fast as they can go for 30 seconds. They did this workout interval all out a handful of times for 30 seconds each.
The results showed that a high intensity interval training type workout, exercising all out for 30 second intervals for 3 minutes total, dramatically improved both insulin action, and glucose clearance.
The researchers concluded that brief, but intense was the best way to cut the risk of diabetes. Even after 2 weeks on the HIIT training program, subjects increased their metabolism significantly.
What does this mean for you?
If cleared by your doctor, I encourage you to incorporate high intensity interval training into your fitness program. It will not only save you a ton of valuable time, but raise your metabolism as good or better than doing low to moderate intensity cardio for a couple of hours each week. Raise your metabolism in less time. Sounds like a bargain! It is.
You can do a workout like this on any piece of cardiovascular equipment. Another option is hitting the streets for sprints if that is your cup of tea.
Remember, multiple 30 second, all out intervals will do.
Let my know, by commenting below, if you have ever tied incorporating HIIT into your fitness program. What were you results? Did you like it?

Jim,
HIIT is amazing for dropping weight quickly.
Have you heard of Lyle McDonald’s Stubborn Fat Protocol?
It involves doing HIIT and then resting 5 minutes to allow the body to release fatty acids into the blood stream, then doing Steady State Cardio for 10-20 minutes to use these fatty acids for energy.
I made a 3 page mini-course for the readers of my site. Ignore the first page of me in a “James Bond Swimsuit”…then info on page 2 and 3 is helpful.
