4 Way To Prevent Alzheimer's Disease And Dementia

Now, what are the things that you need to do? Number one, we've heard this before - regular exercise. Yes, regular exercise is absolutely critical, that is cardiovascular as well as strength training on a regular program twice a week for 30 minutes, 20-minute bouts of exercise. It'll help your heart health, which will decrease the chances of dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

Number two is to limit the highly processed or ultra-processed foods which we eat way too many of. It's estimated that 58% of the American diet is comprised of ultra-processed foods which make us want to eat more and are loaded with different chemicals and things that we should not be eating - high fats, high salts, high sugar - which affect our health long term and can affect our brains as well. That is a problem.

Number three is sleep. We're not getting enough sleep. You need to work on getting seven to nine hours of sleep a night, which is crucial.

Number four, you want to keep your brain stimulated. Do crossword puzzles, work on challenging things, use your brain, push it. The brain needs to be pushed. That is absolutely critical as well. Now, those four things will make a difference if you start focusing on right now in middle age from the age of 40 and up. It can make a difference. Research shows it will and can. I would definitely recommend it.
